11 Mar 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Chief of the defence forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba confirms that Uganda has deployed special forces to Juba (South Sudan) to “secure it” amid tensions in South Sudan;

11 Mar 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Tigray Interim Regional Administration president Getachew Reda reports that a faction within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has launched military action in Dega Hamus and parts of Mekelle in Tigray Region;

11 Mar 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Tigray Interim Administration vice president and democratisation cabinet secretariat Lt. Gen. Tsadkan Gebretensae says that a war between Ethiopia and Eritrea “seems inevitable”;

11 Mar 2025 Dodoma (Tanzania) The Citizen. Finance minister Mwigulu Nchemba unveils a proposed TSh 57.04 trillion ($21.58 billion) budget for the 2025/2026 financial year, a 13% increase compared to TSh 50.29 trillion ($19.03 billion) budget for the current financial year;

10 Mar 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africanews. Traders report that trade has slowed between Burundi and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since the conflict in DRC has escalated,  with approximately 89% of Burundi’s exports going to DRC in the fourth quarter of 2023, highlighting the importance of the route;

10 Mar 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Borkena. President Isaias Afwerki sends a message to Saudi Arabia’s prime minister, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, via foreign affairs minister Osman Saleh who met with his counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah;

10 Mar 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) eNCA. Truck drivers and traders report difficulties in trading with Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) customers amid the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC, also reporting stoppages in deliveries from DRC;

10 Mar 2025 Mwanga (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan inaugurates the TSh 406.07 billion ($153.64m) Same-Mwanga-Korogwe water project that will provide water to approximately 300,000 residents in Kilimanjaro Region;

9 Mar 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Sudan Tribune. Djiboutian and Sudanese officials report that Sudan is seeking to join the regional bloc, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the African Union (AU) after a visit by Sudan’s deputy head of the ruling Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, to Djibouti;

9 Mar 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Engineering News. United States Department of State says it is open to exploring a critical minerals partnership with the DRC;

8 Mar 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Jeune Afrique. The government offers a $5m reward to anyone who enables the arrest of M23 leadership figures Corneille Nangaa, Bertrand Bisimwa and Sultani Makenga;

8 Mar 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) eNCA. President William Ruto and opposition politician Raila Odinga sign a political cooperation agreement, a bid by Ruto to bolster his presidency after continuing to lose popularity;

7 Mar 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Reuters. United Nations (UN) says the conflict in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has sent 63,000 refugees into Burundi, the largest influx in a decade;

7 Mar 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Al Jazeera. International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says two boats capsized off Yemen and Djibouti, leaving at least two people dead and 186 missing;

6 Mar 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Bloomberg. Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) director Charles Sangweni says Tanzania plans to launch its fifth oil and gas licensing round for 26 exploration blocks in May, its first such round since 2014;

5 Mar 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Anadolu Agency. European Union (EU) special representative for Africa’s Great Lakes region Johan Borgstram calls on Rwanda to pull all military and logistical assistance out of DRC;
