17 Dec 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) News Central TV. A doctor, speaking anonymously, condemns the government’s handling of the ongoing mpox outbreak, accusing government of remaining silent and not providing vital information;

17 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. DRC files criminal complaints against United States-headquartered Apple’s subsidiaries in France and Belgium, accusing them of using conflict minerals in its supply chain;

17 Dec 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Parliament passes legislation that allows foreign banks to operate in Ethiopia in a bid to attract more foreign investment;

17 Dec 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) X. State owned Kenya Power says electricity supply has been restored following a widespread power outage that affected most the country;

16 Dec 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) AFP. A court sentences journalist Sandra Muhoza to one year and six months in prison on security-related charges which rights group call false and that she is being punished for sharing information in a private WhatsApp group;

16 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) France24. Local and military sources report the army has lost control of Matembe (North Kivu Province), located close to key commercial hub Butembo, to M23 rebels;

16 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) executive board completes Tanzania’s fourth review of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement, approving an immediate disbursement of $204.5m;

16 Dec 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Africanews. A court orders the government to pay $2,740 in compensation to each victim of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group commander Thomas Kwoyelo, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison in October;

16 Dec 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Nile Post. The Eritrean community in Uganda organises the 2nd Eritrean Diaspora Investment Conference;

15 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) SABC News. The peace summit between DRC and Rwanda, set to take place in Angola, is cancelled at the last minute as both sides refuse to negotiate on certain requests;

15 Dec 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Anadolu Agency. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announces he will visit Ethiopia and Somalia in the first two months of 2025 after mediating an accord between the two countries to deescalate tensions;

14 Dec 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) executive board approves Rwanda’s fourth review of its Policy Coordination Instrument and Resilience and Sustainability Facility and second review of its Stanby Credit Facility, disbursing $181.7m;

14 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. National carrier Air Tanzania has been placed on the European Union (EU) Air Safety List, effectively banning the airline from operating within the EU, even though it currently does not operate any flights to the European region;

13 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Punch. President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame are set to meet in Angola on the 15 December to discuss the ongoing conflict with the M23 rebel group in Eastern DRC;

13 Dec 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Addis Standard. Ethiopia’s Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS) denies allegations that Eritrean nationals in Ethiopia are being subject to arbitrary fees or deportation practices;

13 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Freight NewsAfrican Development Bank (AfDB) signs an agreement with Germany-headquartered Deutsche Bank and France-headquartered Société Générale to fund $1.2 billion for the construction of the standard gauge railway, contributing to the 411km railway line connecting Tabora and Kigoma;

12 Dec 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Al24News. President Evariste Ndayishimiye hosts Algeria’s foreign affairs minister Ahmed Attaf to discuss cooperation;

12 Dec 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Al Jazeera. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Ethiopia and Somalia have agreed on a joint declaration to resolve their dispute over Ethiopia’s maritime deal with Somaliland;

11 Dec 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Africa Intelligence. France’s President Emmanuel Macron will visit Djibouti and Ethiopia between 20 and 22 December;

11 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Amnesty International. United Kingdom-headquartered Amnesty International calls for an investigation into senior army officials for possible crimes against humanity committed while supressing a demonstration in Goma (North Kivu Province) in August 2023 in which 56 people were killed;
