4 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, with new areas of cooperation expected to emerge, including deep-sea fishing, the blue economy and vaccine development;

3 Dec 2024 Luanda (Angola) Lusa. Angola will host a summit on 15 December to advance peace talks between Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda;

3 Dec 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africanews. Nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) report that hundreds of Burundians have been expelled from Tanzania after being accused of being illegal immigrants;

3 Dec 2024 Kwago (DRC) The Guardian. Kwago province deputy governor Remy Saki reports that an unknown disease has killed 143 people in the province and the number of infected people is rising;

United States-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) criticises Ethiopia’s suspension of rights groups including the Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD), the Association for Human Rights in Ethiopia (AHRE) and Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR), calling the decision political bias and harming national interests;

3 Dec 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Stock TitanChina-headquartered Bit Mining announces a $14.28m acquisition of 51 megawatts in Ethiopia of crypto mining data centres and 17,869 Bitcoin mining machines;

3 Dec 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Freight NewsUnited States president-elect Donald J Trump has warned BRICS+ members that they will face a 100% tariff on any goods entering the United States if they move away from the US dollar;

3 Dec 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Pumps AfricaEswatini-state owned Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has signed a $2m deal with Kenya-headquartered Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) to conduct geoscientific studies across Eswatini to assess the feasibility of a geothermal power plant;

28 Nov 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) US Embassy. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launches a $31m markets for sanitation project in Ethiopia to improve access to sanitation and hygiene services;

28 Nov 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenCanadian miner Barrick Gold has welcomed the Ontario Superior Courtʼs dismissal of claims brought by Tanzanian residents alleging human rights abuses by members of the Tanzanian police force in the vicinity of the company’s North Mara gold mine;

28 Nov 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenMohamed Mchengerwa, minister of state in the president’s office for regional administration and local government, announces that the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has achieved a landslide victory in Tanzania’s local government elections, winning 99.01% of the village chairperson positions;

27 Nov 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Egypt Today. Parliament speaker Dileita Mohamed Dileita meets with Egypt’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss bilateral relations;

27 Nov 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaches a staff-level agreement with Ethiopia on the second review of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF), recommending a disbursement of $251m;

27 Nov 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) ENA. Peace minister Binalf Andualem meets with Rwanda’s interior minister, Vincent Biruta, to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional peace and development initiatives;

27 Nov 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Star. International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives warn against Kenya’s plan to take a $1.5 billion loan from the United Arab Emirates (UAE);

27 Nov 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. Rwanda extradites Salman Khan, an Indian national whom the Indian government accuses of having links to a terrorist organisation, after he was arrested in Rwanda on 9 September following an Interpol red notice issued by India;

27 Nov 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Bank of Uganda (central bank) says it is awaiting a police report on an alleged hacking incident two weeks ago in which an estimated $17m was taken out of the Treasury account;
