16 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial begins;

15 Oct 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Daily News Egypt. Djibouti and Egypt sign a bilateral agreement for the construction of a 276.5KW solar power plant in Djibouti;

15 Oct 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. DRC cancels the auction of 27 oil blocks citing late bids and lack of competition;

15 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Northern Miner. Canada-headquartered Barrick Gold argues in an Ontario (Canada) court that allegations of human rights abuses in Tanzania should be decided in a court in Tanzania with local police and its local subsidiary as defendants;

15 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Bloomberg. Uganda plans to build a rail line linking the town of Tororo in the east, near the border with Kenya, to a proposed port on Lake Victoria for a combined $600m, which will provide better logistics links through Tanzania to the Indian Ocean;

15 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Daily News. Uganda’s ambassador to Tanzania, Fred Mwesigye, praises the progress of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project, highlighting its potential to significantly boost the economies of both countries while creating job opportunities;

14 Oct 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Sudan Tribune. Foreign minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf meets with Sudan’s head of the Sovereign Council, general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to discuss Sudan’s possible return to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD);

14 Oct 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) AP. International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan says he is renewing an investigation into DRC and allegations of crimes committed in North Kivu Province by rebel groups since early 2022;

13 Oct 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Monitor. President Felix Tshisekedi approves the extension of Operation Shujaa, the joint military operation between DRC and Uganda that is targeting the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in eastern DRC;

13 Oct 2024 Geita (Tanzania) IPP Media. President Samia Suluhu Hassan says at the 7th Mining and Technology Exhibition that more than 56% of all foreign currency earnings in 2023 came from the export of minerals, making the sector the dominant foreign exchange earner for the country;

13 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Bloomberg. Uganda awards Turkey’s Yapi Merkezi Holdings a tender to build the 272km railway linking Kampala to Kenya;

10 Oct 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) HRW. United States-headquartered Human Rights Watch adopts a resolution renewing the mandate of the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Burundi;

10 Oct 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. DRC is elected to serve a three-year term on the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council from 1 January 2025;

10 Oct 2024 Cairo (Egypt) Al Jazeera. Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia agree to post cooperation for regional security amid heightened tensions in the region;

10 Oct 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) AP. Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Rwanda’s Marburg outbreak is under control and travel bans to the country are now unnecessary;

10 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Nile Post. President Yoweri Museveni is reportedly considering making changes to the Electoral Commission (EC) after a report detailed corruption and abuse of office in the EC;

9 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Zawya. Tanzania and Zanzibar announce new oil and gas licensing rounds at Africa Oil Week, taking place in Cape Town (South Africa);

8 Oct 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) WHO. World Health Organisation (WHO) identifies Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi as most affected by the ongoing mpox outbreak;
