15 Nov 2023 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africa.com. Africa Finance Corporation announces Burundi and São Tomé and Príncipe are its newest member countries, and will assist with infrastructure development and financing;

15 Nov 2023 Bujumbura (Burundi) Graphic Online. Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) signs over $580m development loan agreements with 12 African countries including Burundi ($50m), Rwanda ($20m) and Tanzania ($13m);

15 Nov 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Africanews. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed reiterates his pledge to not invade any neighbouring countries over Red Sea port access but says Ethiopia will not abandon its request for port access;

15 Nov 2023 Djibouti (Djibouti) Agence Ecofin. Djibouti announces plans to launch a second satellite into orbit in quarter one of 2024 following the successful 1 November launch of its Djibouti 1A from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in the United States (US);

15 Nov 2023 Kigali (Rwanda) CNN. Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (UK) rules that the controversial plan to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda is unlawful;

15 Nov 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Government in collaboration with the United Nations Women (UN Women) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) will host a three-day international conference focused on gender financing, bringing together finance and gender ministers from 22 African countries;

14 Nov 2023 Kishishe (DRC) Africanews. M23 rebels have reportedly retaken the village of Kishishe in eastern DRC, where the group is accused of having committed a massacre at the end of November 2022;

14 Nov 2023 Kigali (Rwanda) Africanews. Sosthene Munyemana, a former doctor who fled Rwanda for France in 1994, starts his trial in the Assize court in Paris on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the Rwandan genocide;

13 Nov 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperité. M23 rebel group releases a statement saying that Burundian soldiers deployed in eastern DRC with the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) are collaborating with armed groups that are being supported by Rwanda, citing great concern that Burundi is violating the current ceasefire;

13 Nov 2023 Asmara (Eritrea) The Guardian. Eritrea withdraws its football team from 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, reportedly over fears that players will attempt to seek political asylum while abroad;

13 Nov 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Kenya appoints United States-headquartered Citi and South Africa-headquartered Standard Bank as joint lead managers to assess the potential of borrowing in dollars in international markets;

13 Nov 2023 Kampala (Uganda) Africanews. Public prosecutor’s office says it has charged Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group leader Abdul Rashid Kyoto with terrorism, murder, aggravated robbery and membership of a terrorist organisation in connection with the murder of two tourists in the Queen Elizabeth National Park on 17 October;

12 Nov 2023 Bujumbura (Burundi) The Citizen. Infrastructure minister Dieudonne Dukundane says that with the completion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) linking Burundi to Tanzania, Burundi will save $70m a year in transport costs;

11 Nov 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) IPP Media. National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that annual inflation declined slightly from 3.3% in September to 3.2% in October;

10 Nov 2023 Arusha (Tanzania) The Citizen. Arusha regional commissioner John Mongera announces that direct flights between the United States and Tanzania will commence in 2024;

9 Nov 2023 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africanews. Prosecutors in the trial of former prime minister Alain-Guillaume Bynyoni, who is facing charges of undermining national security among others, call for him to be sentenced to life in prison;

9 Nov 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. French judges conclude they have enough evidence to charge and prosecute former militia leader Roger Lumbala for complicity in crimes against humanity committed in Ituri and North Kivu provinces between 2002 and 2003;

9 Nov 2023 Asmara (Eritrea) Africa.com. President Isaias Afwerki arrives in Saudi Arabia to attend the inaugural Saudi Arabia-Africa Summit;

9 Nov 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Africanews. The government and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) hold a fresh set of talks to try to end five years of insurrection in Oromia region;

9 Nov 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. President William Ruto states in his State of the Nation Address to parliament that Kenya will pay back in December $300m of its $2 billion Eurobond, which falls due in June 2024;

9 Nov 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Kenya’s largest telecoms operator, Safaricom, reports a 19.1% fall in its earnings before interest and taxes to KES 41.45 billion ($273.51m) for the first half of the year to the end of September, with the company’s network roll-out in neighbouring Ethiopia reportedly dragging down its performance;

9 Nov 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and Uganda sign a bilateral agreement to construct a natural gas pipeline between the two countries that will transport natural gas from Tanzania’s southern regions to Uganda, helping to boost energy security and economic growth;
