15 Aug 2023 Primorje-Gorski Kotar (Croatia) The Guardian. Croatian police are searching for ten Burundian handball players who have been missing since 10 August, with media reports speculating whether the players planned an escape, using their visas to seek asylum in Europe;

15 Aug 2023 Mogadishu (Somalia) Garowe Online. Somalia’s national army and the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) foil an attack by Al-Shabaab in central Somalia, with the Somali national army promising to reinforce local forces in the area in the fight against Al-Shabaab militants;

15 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) reports it successfully created 145,245 jobs for Tanzanians and contracted 2,010 companies through the execution of strategic projects in the 2022/2023 financial year;

15 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Prime minister Kassim Majaliwa directs Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to stop entertaining underperforming contractors on rural power connections and instead fire them to create vacancies for others;

Kenya and Uganda are set to enhance cross-border trade by establishing a new customs post at the Suam border crossing, creating a third one-stop border facility between the nations, funded by the African Finance Development Bank and supported by China State Engineering Construction Corporation, which will centralise immigration, customs, security and sanitary inspections, improving efficiency in transporting and clearing goods;

11 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. High Court (Mbeya Division) validates the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) contract between Tanzania and Dubai as part of the Tanzania-Dubai port deal, dismissing a challenge by unnamed plaintiffs who argued that the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) wrongly entered into procurement;

10 Aug 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) La Prosperite. President William Ruto begins a three-day state visit to Mozambique to assess the situation of cooperation between the two countries;

10 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Natural resources and tourism deputy minister Mary Masanja directs the management of Katavi National Park to identify areas for investment for both local and foreign investors;

9 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Vice president Philip Mpango appeals for a solution among African leaders to spur coffee production and unlock the untapped potential of the industry in the continent during the opening of the second G25 African Coffee Summit in Uganda;

9 Aug 2023 Kampala (Uganda) UPI News. The World Bank announces it has suspended its lending programmes for Uganda in response to its passage of a harsh new anti-LGBTQ law in May;
