11 Jul 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) NTV. Opposition Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga announces nationwide protests and calls for civil disobedience, with potential for major disruptions and a greater impact compared to previous demonstrations;

11 Jul 2023 Mogadishu (Somalia) Garowe Online. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud opens a meeting with several politicians in the capital, focussing on fighting Al-Shabaab and upgrading Somalia’s security;

11 Jul 2023 Kampala (Uganda) BBC NewsUnited States-headquartered NGO Human Rights Watch reports that the planned East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) will have dire consequences for the environment and local communities;

10 Jul 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. President Félix Tshisekedi and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, sign a series of agreements in several sectors, including infrastructure, transport and electricity;

10 Jul 2023 Victoria (Seychelles) Seychelles News Agency. Investment, entrepreneurship and industry minister Devika Vidot discusses projects after meeting with representatives of local banks, including the Regatta site project and the Kato Nwar tourism project;

8 Jul 2023 Moroni (Comoros) The East African. President William Ruto is reportedly wooing Comoros to join the East African Community (EAC) in addition to inviting Ethiopia to join the bloc and has publicly supported Somalia’s verification process to join the bloc;

8 Jul 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Daily. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) data reveals that Kenya’s food import bill in the first quarter of the year rose 58.4% to hit KSh80.2 billion ($569.4m), nearly matching what was earned from exporting food;

7 Jul 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. The DRC government calls on the permanent and non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to take concrete measures to punish external supporters of armed groups, including their sponsors and suppliers, through targeted sanctions;

7 Jul 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenEast Africa Commercial and Logistics Center director general Cathy Wang says the centre is expected to open to the public in June 2024;

6 Jul 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan makes a mini-cabinet reshuffle, dissolving two ministries and forming three new dockets, with the planning and finance ministry now a standalone finance ministry and the planning docket forming part of the investment and planning ministry;

5 Jul 2023 Victoria (Seychelles) Seychelles News Agency. Investment, entrepreneurship and industry minister Devika Vidot, accompanied by Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA) CEO Lisa Lautoy, announces that the development of the Beau Vallon promenade on the main Seychelles island of Mahe is due to start in September;
