11 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Times Live. Members of the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) launch protest action at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport over a proposed deal with India’s Adani Group causing flight delays and cancellations;

10 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Anadolu Agency. United States (US) ambassador to DRC Lucy Tamlyn confirms the US has donated 50,000 doses of mpox vaccine to DRC;

10 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) VOA. Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) leader Debretsion Gebremichael discloses the TPLF held talks with Eritrean leaders six months ago to resolve tensions around the Tigray War;

10 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Financial Times. High court temporarily blocks a government proposal to allow India’s Ambani Group to manage Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following a petition by the Law Society of Kenya and the Kenya Human Rights Commission, which say the proposal is unaffordable, threatens job losses and exposes the public to fiscal risk;

9 Sep 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Bloomberg. Banque de la République du Burundi (central bank) governor Edouard Normand Bigendako says the bank may cut interest rates by the end of this year for the first time since shifting to utilising borrowing costs rather than money supply to control inflation;

9 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Inspector general of government Beti Kamya says Uganda lost at least USh 30 billion ($8m) to corruption in the 2023/2024 financial year and registered approximately 2,377 corruption-related complaints;

9 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan orders investigative authorities to give her a report on the death of opposition politician Mohamed Ali Kibao who was abducted on Friday and found dead in Dar es Salaam over the weekend;

9 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. A joint European Union delegation statement, in agreement with the British, Canadian, Norwegian, and Swiss diplomatic missions in Tanzania, expresses deep concern over recent reports of violence, disappearances, and deaths of political and human rights activists in the country;

8 Sep 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Africa.com. President Isaias Afwerki meets with president of Sudan‘s sovereign council, General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, in China to discuss bilateral ties and the ongoing situation in Sudan;

8 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Arab News. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed warns that Ethiopia will “humiliate” any country that threatens its sovereignty;

7 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The Africa Report. United States renews sanctions against those involved in the Tigray conflict, stating that the ongoing conflict continues to pose a threat;

7 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Al Jazeera. Germany’s special representative for migration agreements, Joachim Stamp, says the European Union (EU) could utilise the asylum facilities in Rwanda after the United Kingdom discarded its deportation plan;

7 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Independent. Representatives from Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) meet to resolve a border boundary conflict along Rutshuru territory (DRC) and the Ugandan district of Kisoro;

6 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Kenya Power confirms a power outage impacted most parts of Kenya today, the second major blackout in a week;

6 Sep 2024 Windhoek (Namibia) Daily News. Tanzania’s deputy prime minister, Doto Biteko, holds private discussions with Namibia’s vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, during the Global African Hydrogen Summit in Namibia, to explore further cooperation between the two countries;

5 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) France24. Health minister Samuel-Roger Kamba says the first 100,000 doses of mpox vaccine will arrive today;

5 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) VOA. Government releases seven opposition Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) members who have been imprisoned for several years;

5 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Bloomberg. Djibouti’s foreign minister, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, says his government is expecting a positive response to its offer to give Ethiopia access to one of its ports;

5 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) CGTN. President Paul Kagame meets with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, who announces the elevation of China-Rwanda relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership;

5 Sep 2024 Juba (South Sudan) Bloomberg. President Salva Kiir holds discussions with China National Petroleum Corp. chairman Dai Houliang to discuss establishing a substitute oil pipeline through Djibouti or Ethiopia;

5 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) CNBC Africa. World Bank and French development agency Agence française de développement (ADF) give Uganda $600m for infrastructure development and waste management;
