6 Dec 2022 Djibouti (Djibouti) PV Tech. Renewables company CWP Global signs a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Djibouti’s government to develop a 10GW renewable and green hydrogen hub in Djibouti;

6 Dec 2022 Kigali (Rwanda) News24. President Paul Kagame to arrive at the United States-African Leaders Summit next week amid strained relations with the US over two matters that remain unsolved, relating to the imprisonment of US citizen Paul Rusesabagina and the alleged support by Rwanda for rebels in eastern DRC;

6 Dec 2022 Kigali (Rwanda) EWN. Foreign minister Vincent Biruta accuses the international community, and particularly the United States, of exacerbating the crisis in eastern DRC, after Washington pressed Kigali to end its alleged support for rebels in the restive region;

6 Dec 2022 (East Africa) Africa Intelligence. Global police organisation Interpol seeks contractors to upgrade and expand its border surveillance systems in Burundi, South Sudan and Uganda;

6 Dec 2022 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. East African Community (EAC) announces that armed groups and the DRC government will hold peace talks in January in eastern DRC, following three previous meetings in Kenya;

6 Dec 2022 Mekelle (Ethiopia) Fana Broadcast. Power services are restored in Mekelle, the capital of the northern Tigray region, for the first time in over a year;

5 Dec Juba (South Sudan) Aljazeera. South Sudan’s military says more than 700 personnel will travel to eastern DRC to join a new regional force trying to calm the latest deadly clashes there;

2 Dec 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. President William Ruto launches a low-interest credit scheme to boost financial access for the country’s poorest citizens, fulfilling a key campaign promise made to voters;

1 Dec 2022 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Reuters. Witnesses and aid workers in Tigray region say Eritrean troops, the federal government’s allies, are looting towns, arresting, and killing civilians and relocating thousands of people from a disputed part of Tigray despite a truce between the government and local forces;

1 Dec 2022 Tigray (Ethiopia) The Washington Post. Government says a joint committee of government representatives and Tigray forces has convened inside the Tigray region to outline disarmament plans as part of a peace deal signed last month;

1 Dec 2022 Antananarivo (Madagascar) Africa Intelligence. Lychee exporters lodge a complaint against the local branch of Transparency International, which has accused them of corruption;

1 Dec 2022 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Prime minister Kassim Majaliwa launches the SDG Investor Map, a market intelligence tool guiding the private sector in identifying investment themes that have significant potential to advance sustainable development goals;

30 Nov 2022 Kigali (Rwanda) News23. President Paul Kagame accuses his DRC counterpart President Felix Tshisekedi of exploiting a violent crisis in his country’s east to delay elections;

30 Nov 2022 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics says inflation unexpectedly slowed for the first time in nine months in November – reaching 9.5% year-on-year compared with 9.6% in October – helped by lower gas and food prices.
