1 Apr 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) News Central. Presidency confirms that Abdoulkader Houssein Omar has been appointed foreign affairs minister, replacing Mahamoud Ali Youssouf who has stepped down after nearly 20 years to assume the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship;

1 Apr 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) RFI. Thomas Lubanga, whom the International Criminal Court (ICC) convicted in 2012 on charges of recruiting child soldiers, announces the creation of a new rebel movement, Convention for the Popular Revolution, aimed at overthrowing the Ituri provincial government;

1 Apr 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Government and M23 rebels will reportedly hold direct talks on 9 April in Qatar;

1 Apr 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Bank of Tanzania (central bank) intervenes on the foreign exchange market, selling $25m at an average of TSh 2,633.16 per dollar;

31 Mar 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Vietnam+. Vietnam’s foreign affairs ministry confirms that President Evariste Ndayishimiye will visit Vietnam between 3 and 6 April on an official visit;

31 Mar 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Business Daily. Energy minister Daniel Kiptoo lobbies members of parliament (MPs) to lift a ban on the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) by Kenya Power in a bid to boost electricity generation;

29 Mar 2025 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. Uganda signs an agreement with United Arab Emirates-headquartered Alpha MBM Investments for a 60% stake in a crude oil refinery in Kabaale (Western Region), with state-owned Uganda National Oil Company holding the remaining 40%;

28 Mar 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Reuters. Fonds Souverain de Djibouti (FSD) (sovereign wealth fund) CEO Slim Feriani says the FSD plans to double its assets under its management to more than $1 billion in the next ten years;

28 Mar 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Qatari mediators reportedly hosted a second round of talks between DRC and Rwanda and met separately with M23 rebels to discuss a ceasefire in eastern DRC;

28 Mar 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Defence Web. Southern African Development Community (SADC) reaches an agreement with M23 rebels to facilitate the withdrawal of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) troops and equipment from Goma (North Kivu Province);

28 Mar 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. Opposition leader Raila Odinga leaves for South Sudan today as a special envoy to discuss easing tensions between South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and first vice president Riek Machar;

27 Mar 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Mail & Guardian. Foreign minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner confirms talks are in progress with the United States (US) on a strategic minerals agreement but nothing has been agreed upon yet;

27 Mar 2025 Kigali (Rwanda) Market Forces. United States-headquartered Moody’s Ratings affirms Rwanda’s long-term local and foreign currency issuer ratings and foreign currency senior unsecured debt rating at B2 but changes its outlook from stable to negative due to risks to the country’s credit profile stemming from the ongoing conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC);

27 Mar 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Prevention and Combatting of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) report indicates the PCCB recovered TSh 30.19 billion ($11.41m) in the 2023/2024 financial year;

26 Mar 2025 Asmara (Eritrea) Africanews. German authorities launch raids on individuals residing in Germany accused of being part of an international network wishing to overthrow the Eritrean government;

26 Mar 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Addis Standard. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed confirms Getachew Reda has left his position as the Tigray Region interim president, calling on Tigrayans to participate in the nomination of a new interim president;

26 Mar 2025 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Office of the treasury registrar sets a goal for the 56 companies in which the governments hold a minority stake to contribute 10% of the national budget, up from their current 3% contribution;

26 Mar 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Bloomberg. East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) announces that it has closed the first tranche of external financing for the project, provided by several African financial institutions including the African Export Import Bank, South Africa’s Standard Bank, Stanbic Bank Uganda, KCB Bank Uganda and Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD);
