2 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) CNBC Africa. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reports the economy expanded by 4.6% year-on-year in the second quarter, down from 5.6% in the corresponding period in 2023, and that inflation fell from 4.4% in August to 3.6% in September;

2 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Energy and mineral development minister Ruth Nankabirwa confirms Uganda has formed a state-owned mining company to manage government’s equity interests in mining operations;

1 Oct 2024 Karisimbi (DRC) La Croix International. Radio Mara Goma confirms a journalist who worked for the Catholic radio station was assassinated on 27 September by unidentified armed men after leaving work;

1 Oct 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Reuters. Government says in a presentation to private bondholders that it expects progress with an agreement in principle with creditor nations by December;

1 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula is expected to notify members of parliament (MPs) today of his receipt of a motion seeking the removal of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua;

1 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The government says it is optimistic about finalising the Host Government Agreement (HGA) for its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) project before the end of the year;

30 Sep 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Garowe Online. President Ismail Omar Guelleh returns to Djibouti from France amid speculation over his health;

30 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Anadolu Agency. Heavy rains and landslides kill at least 37 people in northern Ethiopia;

30 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) The Africa Report. International Monetary Fund (IMF) says no date has been confirmed for the IMF executive board to discuss Kenya’s $600m disbursement;

30 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) IPP Media. Leading local commercial bank CRDB Bank has signed a $320m agreement with United States-based institutions, International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Citibank, to strengthen its ability to provide loans to small businesses in Tanzania and Burundi;

30 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. Uganda receives the first batch of coated line pipes for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which was delivered to the main camp and pipe yard in the Kyotera district;

29 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Jeune Afrique. President Félix Tshisekedi arrives in Hungary to meet with prime minister Viktor Orbán to sign several cooperation agreements;

29 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) SABC News. Health minister Sabin Nsanzimana confirms six people have died of Marburg virus disease and that there are 20 other registered cases, noting that most deaths and infection cases are among health workers;

29 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. Opposition candidate and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi (also known Bobi Wine) confirms he will run in the 2026 election;

28 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaches a staff-level agreement with Ethiopia on the first review of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF), recommending a disbursement of $345m to the executive board;

28 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters.  Tanzania Mining Commission orders all mining firms and traders exporting gold to allocate at least 20% of the commodity for sale to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) (central bank) to bolster the bank’s move to diversify its foreign reserves;

27 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Africa CDC. Health ministry declares a Marburg virus disease outbreak;

27 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The CitizenMauritius-registered Aqua Power Tanzania Limited has initiated legal proceedings against the Tanzanian government and is seeking over $500m in compensation, alleging discrimination by authorities, including being denied an investment licence in the energy sector;

26 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Yahoo. Mpox vaccinations will be administered in Kinshasa in a bid to stop the virus from spreading rapidly in the city of 17 million and around the world through its air links;

26 Sep 2024 Goma (DRC) Human Rights Watch. United States (US)-headquartered Human Rights Watch says the Rwandan army and M23 rebels have indiscriminately shelled displacement camps and other densely populated areas near Goma throughout 2024;

26 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Africa News. President William Ruto says Kenya will deploy additional police officers to Haiti to help the government there fight armed gangs as part of a 2,500-strong multinational force;

26 Sep 2024 Arusha (Tanzania) Al Jazeera. East African Court of Justice starts proceedings on a case filed by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) against Rwanda, accusing it of violating its sovereignty and sending soldiers to support rebel groups in DRC’s east;

26 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Uganda commissions the Chinese financed and built Karuma Hydropower Project (KHP), its largest electricity generation plant, a 600 megawatt (MW) power plant on the River Nile built at a cost of $1.7 billion;

25 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) France24. President Felix Tshisekedi addresses the United Nations General Assembly, calling for sanctions against Rwanda over its support for rebels in DRC’s east;
