31 Jul 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) The Africa Report. United States district court rules it will enforce a $200m fine imposed on Djibouti in 2022 by the London Court of Arbitration in its dispute with United Arab Emirates-headquartered DP World over the termination of Djibouti’s contract with DP World;

30 Jul 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) The East African. East African Community (EAC) calls on its member states to educate citizens on how to protect themselves and prevent the spread of mpox following reports of cases in Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC);

30 Jul 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Business Live. World Bank approves a $1.5 billion financing package for Ethiopia after the country secured a four-year $3.4 billion programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF);

29 Jul 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Government accuses the M23 rebels and Rwandan forces backing them of sending false navigation signals to disrupt air traffic over North Kivu province;

29 Jul 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Business Live. The birr’s value falls 30% against the United States (US) dollar, trading at 74.73/$, after National Bank of Ethiopia (central bank) floated the currency;

29 Jul 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Bloomberg. National Bank of Ethiopia (central bank) allows the birr to trade freely, a requirement towards securing an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and making progress on its debt negotiations;

29 Jul 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Kampala magistrate’s court charges 36 opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) members on terrorism-related offences after they were deported from Kenya where they travelled to attend a training course;

29 Jul 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania agrees to pay $90m in settlement of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes case with Australia’s Indiana Resources Limited, resolving the dispute over the expropriation of the Ntaka Hills Nickel Project;

27 Jul 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) The East African. United States (US) and European Union (EU) sanction the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC), a coalition of armed groups, including the M23, accused of fuelling violent conflict and civilian displacement in DRC;

26 Jul 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Reuters. The health ministry reports three cases of mpox, assuring the population it has taken measures to deal with the disease;

26 Jul 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Garowe Online. Ethiopian Airlines says it is seeking clarification on the recent ban by the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority and is determined to solve the issues amicably and promptly;

25 Jul 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Arab News. Prime minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed meets with Saudi Arabia’s deputy foreign affairs minister, Waleed Al-Khuraiji, to review relations;

25 Jul 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Africanews. Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority suspends all flights by Ethiopian Airlines to its airspace from 30 September, citing malicious trading practices, luggage theft, unwarranted price hikes and other irregularities;

25 Jul 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) AFP. United Nations (UN) says the death toll from landslides in southern Ethiopia could rise to 500;

25 Jul 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Bloomberg. India’s Adani Airport Holdings submits a proposal to invest in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, saying the airport needs $1.85 billion in investment;

24 Jul 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) AFP. France and Djibouti renew their defence partnership following two years of negotiations;

24 Jul 2024 Oicha (DRC) Reuters. Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, an Islamic State-linked group originally from neighbouring Uganda, kill at least 17 people in an attack on civilians working fields;

24 Jul 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. President William Ruto appoints four members of the main opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to his cabinet as protests continue across the country;
