23 Mar 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Local media reports that Sudan has been unable to keep up its payment to Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP), prompting government intervention;

22 Mar 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Parliament passes a decision to lift the May 2021 designation of the Tigray People’s Liberation Force (TPLF) as a terrorist force as the peace agreement between the TPLF and government progresses;

21 Mar 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Government refutes the allegations by United States secretary of state Antony Blinken concerning the war crimes and crimes against humanity in the northern part of Ethiopia;

28 Mar 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Monitor. African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat expresses concern at violence that led to deaths and what he calls interruption of certain economic activities in Nairobi and other Kenyan cities where supporters of opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, led by their leader Raila Odinga, were protesting;

21 Mar 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Africanews. A group of 43 Facebook moderators fired in January announce they are filing a lawsuit in Kenya against the social network’s parent company Meta for, among other things, unlawful dismissal;

28 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. A delegation of at least 30 businesspeople from South Africa are in Tanzania to explore the potential of the mining sector for prospective investment with growth of Tanzania’ s mining sector having increased to 7.3% in 2022 from 4.8% recorded in 2018;

28 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority data show that cargo handled in 2022 surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 32% to reach 35,130.83 tonnes;

27 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzanian stakeholders, commenting on the 2022 Africa: The Big Deal report noting that startup funding in Tanzania amounted to $80m in 2022 compared to $1.1 billion in neighbouring Kenya, say indifference to the benefits of a digital economy, lack of appropriate policies and poor branding are among factors affecting the financing of startups in Tanzania;

26 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has invested nearly TSh20 trillion ($8.5 billion) in the implementation of development projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors during her two years in power;

22 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Government issues a travel advisory following the outbreak of Marburg Viral Disease (MVD) that has claimed five lives in Kagera region;

21 Mar 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan addresses the public and promises that her administration will review laws and regulations governing investment to make Tanzania more attractive to investors;

28 Mar 2023 Kampala (Uganda) Monitor. A study titled “How Sustainable Is the Public Debt for Uganda”, presented during the annual debt and development policy dialogue by Makerere School of Economics economist Fred Muhumuza and MUBS Economics Forum economist Paul Wabiga, shows that Uganda’s increasing rate of debt is higher than the rate of increment in the GDP levels;

22 Mar 2023 Kampala (Uganda) BBC. Uganda’s parliament passes a controversial bill that cracks down on homosexual activities and means that those who identify as gay could risk life in prison;

22 Mar 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. Prime minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge addresses a delegation from the Conference of Parties on Biodiversity (Cop 15) on the Congo Basin’s environment in terms of climate, more particularly issues related to the fight against desertification, soil degradation and drought;
