8 Jan 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) CCN. China-headquartered Bit Mining signs a $14m deal to acquire a 51MW Bitcoin mining facility in Ethiopia where it will house older machines and utilise low-cost electricity;

6 Jan 2025 Djibouti (Djibouti) Times of Oman. Djibouti and Oman sign an air transport agreement to enhance bilateral cooperation in the area and facilitate movement of passengers and goods;

6 Jan 2025 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. The Nairobi Securities Exchange lifts a suspension on trading shares of national carrier Kenya Airways followings its profit recorded in 2024;

6 Jan 2025 Kampala (Uganda) CNBC Africa. Bank of Uganda (BoU) (central bank) says it will change the release of its benchmark policy rate from every two months to quarterly going forward;

5 Jan 2025 Kinshasa (DRC) Jeune Afrique. Officials confirm that M23 rebels have seized Masisi (North Kivu Province), located approximately 80km from the provincial capital, Goma;

4 Jan 2025 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) eNCA. Evacuations are underway after a series of earthquakes in the Afar, Oromia and Amhara Regions;

4 Jan 2025 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. Bank of Uganda (BoU) (central bank) forecasts economic growth of 7% over the next three to five years if public infrastructure investment remains high;

2 Jan 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) New Vision. Independent National Electoral Commission rules that the candidates belonging to the four-party Burundi for All coalition cannot stand in the upcoming election scheduled for 5 June;

1 Jan 2025 Bujumbura (Burundi) Radio Dalsan. Burundi withdraws its soldiers from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), citing a dispute over the number of soldiers allocated to the mission;

31 Dec 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Fresh Plaza. National Institute of Statistics reports Rwanda recorded an 82.5% increase in fruit export revenues, totalling $34.7m in the 2023/2024 fiscal year;

30 Dec 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) DW. Kenyans protest to demand the release of people they allege the police and intelligence services have abducted;

27 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) SABC News. United States-headquartered Apple says it has suspended the purchase of minerals whose source can be traced to the DRC;

27 Dec 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) RFI. Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) launches an investigation into the rising number of abductions, allegedly perpetrated by the police;

25 Dec 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Arab News. Djibouti and Japan sign a $7m agreement in Official Security Assistance (OSA) to enhance maritime surveillance and security;

25 Dec 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Borkena. Eritrea rejects allegations that it is illegally smuggling gold from mining sites from Tigray Region (Ethiopia);

24 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Business Insider Africa. Tanzania cancels bank charges on card payments as a way to encourage more digital transactions;

20 Dec 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Reuters. Health minister Sabin Nsanzimana officially declares Rwanda’s Marburg virus outbreak over following the recovery of the last patient 42 days ago;

19 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Engineering News. African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) signs a project preparation facility financing agreement for an up to 200 MW private-sector, reservoir-based hydropower project to be located along the Lufira River;

19 Dec 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. President William Ruto reshuffles his cabinet, dropping agriculture cabinet secretary (CS) Andrew Karanja and ICT CS Margaret Nyambura Ndungu’u, nominating allies of former president Uhuru Kenyatta;

18 Dec 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Africanews. Civil society movements and opposition parties launch an awareness campaign called Patriotes Engagés against a planned constitutional amendment;

18 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters. Finance minister Mwigulu Nchemba and Bank of Tanzania (central bank) governor Emmanuel Tutuba forecast economic growth of 6% in 2025, up from 5.4% in 2024;

18 Dec 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Tanzania and Oman have signed a landmark agreement aimed at eliminating double taxation, preventing tax evasion and strengthening bilateral ties;

18 Dec 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Sudan Tribune. Sudan demands an official apology from Uganda over the “offensive and dangerous” comments made by Uganda’s chief of army staff and President Yoweri Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who threatened in an X post to invade Sudan;
