25 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Amnesty International. United Kingdom-headquartered Amnesty International says plainclothes police officers fired live rounds at demonstrators at parliament’s complex on 25 June during anti-government protests;

24 Sep 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Space in Africa. United States (US)-headquartered Starlink expands its satellite internet operations to Burundi;

24 Sep 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Africanews.  United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reports that children aged between 5 and 19 account for 33% of mpox cases in Burundi, prompting schools to introduce prevention measures;

24 Sep 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) APA News. The first ever livestock export by railway leaves Ethiopia set for Djibouti;

24 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) SABC News. South Kivu Province governor Jean-Jacques Purusi Sadiki approves the resumption of all mining activities in the province which have been suspended since July;

24 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) iAfrica. Somalia accuses Ethiopia of smuggling weapons across the Somali border which it says are being used by civilians and terrorists;

24 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Mofa.gov.iq. Foreign affairs minister Olivier Nduhungirehe meets with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, on the side lines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss enhancing bilateral relations;

24 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) New Times. Rwanda and the Bahamas sign a visa waiver agreement;

24 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Guardian. London (United Kingdom) tribunal has heard claims that the 2017 attempted assassination of Tundu Lissu, vice chairman of the main opposition party Chadema, is connected to the Luxembourg-based telecommunications provider Millicom, which allegedly shared his mobile phone data with the Tanzanian government;

23 Sep 2024 Asmara (Eritrea) Daily News Egypt. Foreign affairs minister Osman Saleh meets with his Egyptian and Somalian counterparts – Badr Abdelatty and Ahmed Mu’alim Fiqi – to discuss shared goals and interests;

23 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) eNCA. Police arrest opposition party Chadema’s vice chairman, Tundu Lissu, as Chadema plans protests across Dar es Salaam today;

23 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Riot police have been heavily deployed in areas of Dar es Salaam to prevent planned protests by the main opposition party Chadema;

23 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) CNBC Africa. State-run coffee sector regulator Uganda Coffee Development Authority says the value of Uganda’s coffee exports increased 82.9% in August compared to a year earlier due to higher global prices, earning the country $221.6m;

22 Sep 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) The East African. United Nations (UN) under-secretary for peacekeeping operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix confirms that the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC will not withdraw on 31 December, stating that all parties did not formally agree upon this date;

22 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Nation. Kenya agrees to send 600 more police officers to Haiti, bringing its deployment to 1,000;

21 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) AFP. Somalia accuses Ethiopia of supplying weapons to the semi-autonomous region of Puntland;

21 Sep 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) SABC News. Rwanda starts vaccinating people in high-risk areas against mpox, the first African country to do so;

21 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Police ramp up security patrols across Dar es Salaam ahead of demonstrations planned by the opposition party Chadema, set for 23 September;

21 Sep 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. President Yoweri Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, confirms he will not run for the presidency in the 2026 elections and urges his supporters to endorse his father;

20 Sep 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Zawya. World Bank approves $90m in additional financing for the Djibouti Regional Economic Corridor project;

20 Sep 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) AFP. Kenyan Human Rights Commission confirms three people have been freed, accusing security forces of keeping them captive after they partook in anti-government protests;

19 Sep 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Arab News. Turkey’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, says the country will hold separate talks with Ethiopia and Somalia before a new round of talks focused on easing tensions;

19 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Former prime minister Joseph Warioba, speaking at a Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TDC) event, warns about the potential for unrest in the upcoming 2024 local elections and 2025 general election if political leaders fail to reach consensus;

18 Sep 2024 Gondar (Ethiopia) APA News. Rebel Fano militia take control of Gondar, a major city in the Amhara Region;

18 Sep 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Local manufacturers say they are currently able to access only about 30% of their monthly United States dollar needs through official channels;
