22 Oct 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and Dubai-headquartered DP World officially sign a 30-year concession agreement that will see DP World invest $250m to upgrade Dar es Salaam Port. Under the contract is the Host Government Agreement (HGA), the lease and operation of berths four to seven and the joint operation of berths zero to three between Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and DP World;

21 Oct 2023 Bujumbura (Burundi) Garowe Online. Burundi donates four helicopters to Somalia to help aid its ongoing operations against al-Shabaab militants;

21 Oct 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Women, children and youth affairs office says that more than 30,000 children were separated from their parents during the Tigray conflict which has contributed to the growing number of street children in the region;

21 Oct 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. President William Ruto and his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, sign 11 memoranda of understanding. Ruto also agrees that Kenya will waive visa requirements for Angolan citizens;

21 Oct 2023 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. Rwanda sends 16 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza;

21 Oct 2023 Kampala (Uganda) The Citizen. Uganda will destroy 1,700 tonnes of maize after East African Community (EAC) standard tests find high aflatoxin levels in the maize worth $2m;

20 Oct 2023 Kampala (Uganda) Daily Monitor. Military confirms it has deployed additional forces to the border with Democratic Republic of Congo following an attack by suspected DRC-based rebel group Allied Democratic Forces on two tourists in the Queen Elizabeth National Park;

19 Oct 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Bloomberg. Djibouti joins Eritrea and Somalia in rejecting an appeal by prime minister Abiy Ahmed to grant Ethiopia direct access to a port on the Red Sea;

19 Oct 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Daily Nation. President William Ruto signs into law the Primary Health Care Act 2023, the Digital Health Act, 2023, the Facility Improvement Financing Act, 2023 and the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023. The four bills are aimed at promoting universal health coverage; however, critics note that in order to do this, all workers will have to contribute 2.75% of their salaries towards a new health fund;

19 Oct 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. United Nations World Tourism Organisation formally admits the Tanzania Association of Tour Operations (TATO) as a new affiliate member, increasing Tanzania’s tourism profile;

19 Oct 2023 Kampala (Uganda) Africanews. Military spokesman Felix Kulayigye says that a joint army, police and wildlife authority force has been deployed to track down the perpetrators who killed three people in the Queen Elizabeth National Park;
