24 Apr 2024 Kamapala (Uganda) Daily Monitor. Finance ministry data indicates that gold has reclaimed the number one spot as Uganda’s largest export commodity in the 12 months to February, earning a monthly average of $228.4m;

23 Apr 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Africanews. International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that at least 16 people have died and 28 are missing after a migrant boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti;

23 Apr 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The Africa Report. United Nations reports that over 50,000 people have been displaced in northern Ethiopia amid escalating violence;

23 Apr 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) New Times. President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron hold a phone call to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional issues, including the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC);

23 Apr 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Guardian. World Bank suspends financing intended to develop tourism in southern Tanzania after noting that it received information suggesting breaches of the project’s implementation policies, including forced eviction and other abuses;

22 Apr 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) The East African. A leaked letter from mines minister Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi to China’s Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd reveals that mineral shipments originating from the company’s COMMUS project were returned due to high radiation levels, with the ministry suspending Zijin’s licence pending investigation;

22 Apr 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) RFI. The United Kingdom (UK) parliament approves the deportation bill that will see the UK deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, with prime minister Rishi Sunak confirming that flights will begin in July;

22 Apr 2024 Tanga (Tanzania) IPP Media. Tanga port manager Masoud Mrisha says major improvements at the port have enabled it to accommodate large ships and increase cargo flow, allowing it to effectively serve the northeastern part of the country and neighbouring Kenya and Uganda via Lake Victoria;

21 Apr 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) The Herald. The 4th Zimbabwe-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation begins ahead of a state visit by President William Ruto to Zimbabwe on Friday;

21 Apr 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Business Daily. Uganda and Kenya begin exploring cross-cultural tourism to bolster revenue;

20 Apr 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. Embassies of the G7 member countries based in Addis Ababa – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States – express concern over renewed violence in northern Ethiopia, calling for inclusive dialogue among all stakeholders;

20 Apr 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Tanzania and Zambia resolve four of 15 trade issues that have hindered trade between the two countries;

19 Apr 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Belgium’s ambassador to DRC,  Roxane de Bilderling, says the DRC should file a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over Rwanda’s failure to respect its border;

18 Apr 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) AP News. Interior minister Martin Niteretse calls for international aid amid deadly floods that have impacted the port of Bujumbura and disrupted business in the capital and across the country;

18 Apr 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Al Jazeera. President William Ruto says that military chief General Francis Ogolla is among ten people killed in a helicopter crash;

18 Apr 2024 Dodoma (Tanzania) The Citizen. Prime minister Kassim Majaliwa tells parliament that the government is planning to repossess dormant land licensed to foreign investors for mineral surveying or mining and distribute it to small-scale miners;

18 Apr 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Africanews. President Samia Suluhu Hassan arrives in Turkey for a five-day state visit, the first by a Tanzanian president to Turkey in 14 years;
