22 Oct 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Bloomberg. National Bank of Ethiopia (central bank) governor Mamo E. Mihretu says interest rates will remain high for the rest of the year to offset the impacts of its foreign exchange reforms;

22 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) The East African. President William Ruto meets his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to discuss Somalia’s security;

22 Oct 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) IMF. International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Rwandan authorities reach a staff-level agreement on the fourth reviews of Rwanda’s Policy Coordination Instrument and Resilience and Sustainability Facility and second review of its Stand-by Credit Facility, recommending a total disbursement of $185m;

22 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) The East Africa. East African Community (EAC) secretariat reports Uganda attracted the highest volume of investment from fellow EAC members in 2023;

21 Oct 2024 Djibouti (Djibouti) Suna Times. President Ismail Omar Guelleh meets his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to discuss the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS);

21 Oct 2024 Kalembe (DRC) The East African. Officials confirm M23 rebels have seized Kalembe town in eastern DRC, which is located close to gold mines;

21 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) BBC. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says it is deeply concerned by Kenya’s decision to repatriate four Turkish refugees at the request of the Turkish government;

21 Oct 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) Liberian Observer. Rwanda and Liberia sign a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic cooperation;

21 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) CNBC Africa. Deputy prime minister and energy minister Doto Biteko says Tanzania is building a grid interconnector with Zambia to help Zambia mitigate its drought-driven power crisis;

20 Oct 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) AFP. Clashes between M23 rebels and government-aligned militia Wazalendo break out in eastern DRC;

20 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) VOA. Impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua tells reporters that his life may be in danger and calls President William Ruto “vicious” and “cruel”;

20 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Reuters. Opposition Chadema says unidentified people abducted, beat and seriously injured its women’s wing publicity secretary, Aisha Machano;

20 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) BNA. President Yoweri Museveni meets with his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to discuss cooperation in security, trade, and development;

19 Oct 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Garowe Online. Ethiopia expresses its intent to keep its military forces in Somalia as part of the new African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) but Somalia insists that Ethiopia end its sea access agreement with Somaliland before committing;

19 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Jurist. High court issues a temporary order stopping the replacement of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua from taking office;

18 Oct 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Reuters. President William Ruto nominates interior secretary Kithure Kindiki to succeed deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached by parliament’s two chambers after he was accused of inciting ethnic hatred;

17 Oct 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) International Monetary Fund. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaches a staff-level agreement with Tanzania on a review that will make about $265.8m available to the country;

17 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) All Africa. Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) issues a warning to individuals spreading false information, emphasising that such actions will not be tolerated when it concerns national security;

17 Oct 2024 Kampala (Uganda) Reuters. The Netherlands is considering a plan to send rejected African asylum seekers to Uganda;

16 Oct 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Daily Maverick. Ethiopia Investment Holdings CEO Brook Taye confirms Ethiopia is hoping to raise $255m by selling shares in state-owned Ethio Telecom in the country’s first initial public offering (IPO);
