21 Aug 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) France24. United Kingdom (UK)-headquartered Amnesty International says in a new report that President Évariste Ndayishimiye continues to rule with a “wave of repression”, which has ended hopes of meaningful change with his government;

20 Aug 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Maritime Executive. United Kingdom (UK) development finance institution British International Investment (BII) confirms it will take a $35m stake in United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based DP World’s new container port in DRC;

20 Aug 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) Africanews. Kenya Airways reports an after-tax profit of $4m for January to June, its first half-year profit in over a decade;

20 Aug 2024 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) News24. Foreign affairs ministry says foreign diplomatic missions are included in a ban on the importation of petrol and diesel vehicles;

20 Aug 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) The East African. Ambassador Henriette Geiger, head of the European Union (EU) delegation in Kenya, says Rwanda has expressed interest in joining Kenya’s Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the EU which offers Kenya duty-free access to 27 countries in the EU;

19 Aug 2024 Luanda (Angola) Jornal de Angola. Angola will host another ministerial meeting between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda to discuss President João Lourenço‘s peace agreement proposal;

19 Aug 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Bloomberg. World Health Organisation (WHO) says Burundi has reported 100 cases of mpox caused by a fast-spreading subvariant;

19 Aug 2024 Kinshasa (DRC) Reuters. Health ministry says it is hoping to receive its first doses of an mpox vaccine by next week;

19 Aug 2024 Nairobi (Kenya) CNBC Africa. Finance minister John Mbadi says government plans to reintroduce to parliament tax measures contained in the proposed Finance Bill 2024 to raise extra revenue;

19 Aug 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Data from the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) show that it has registered 409 investment projects between January and June worth $3.09 billion, including 385 new ventures and 24 others flagged for expansion.

18 Aug 2024 Harare (Zimbabwe) The Citizen. Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan is elected chairperson of the organ on politics, defence and security at the 44th Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit of heads of state and governments in Harare;

17 Aug 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) SABC News. Government announces that local elections will take place on 27 November;

16 Aug 2024 Bujumbura (Burundi) Anadolu Agency. President Évariste Ndayishimiye pardons journalist Floriane Irangabiye from a ten-year prison sentence for charges including endangering the state, charges that United Kingdom (UK)-headquartered Amnesty International described as “a violation of her right to freedom of expression”;

16 Aug 2024 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Uganda has begun importing petroleum products through Dar es Salaam Port, marking a significant shift in its fuel supply strategy, in response to new restrictions imposed by Kenya on the volume of fuel that Uganda can import through the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC);

14 Aug 2024 Amhara (Ethiopia) VOA. United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirms an unidentified criminal group operating in Dawunt Woreda (Amhara Region) kidnapped for ransom and later killed a humanitarian worker;

14 Aug 2024 Kigali (Rwanda) AFP. Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB) says it has signed an agreement with United States-based Nano Nuclear Energy to further develop nuclear energy in the country;
