9 Aug 2023 Kampala (Uganda) The East African. World Bank announces it will suspend funding for any future projects in Uganda citing human rights violations stemming from its enactment of one of the strictest anti-LGBTQ+ laws;

8 Aug 2023 Ahmara (Ethiopia) Africanews. Ethiopian Airlines cancels scheduled flights travelling to Bahir Dar, the capital of Ahmara region, until Friday amid increased fighting between the federal army and local militia;

8 Aug 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) Pulse Kenya. Inspector general of police Japhet Koome accuses the opposition of hiring bodies from morgues to plant during anti-government protests in recent weeks, allowing allegations of police brutality to run rife;

8 Aug 2023 Victoria (Seychelles) Seychelles News Agency. Finance minister Naadir Hassan reports that government expects to collect $6.3m through the Seychelles tourism environmental sustainable levy for the period 1 August to 31 December, and at least $15m in 2024;

8 Aug 2023 Victoria (Seychelles) Seychelles News Agency. Seychelles joins 14 other members of the African continent to share experiences and look for ways to better implement the African peer review mechanism reviewing process in their respective countries;

8 Aug 2023 Mogadishu (Somalia) UniIndia. Somali national army and international partners kill 45 Al-Shabaab militants after conducting a joint operation in Hiiraan region in central Somalia;

8 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Stanbic Bank Tanzania and Tanzanian agricultural solutions provider Agricom Africa (AA) sign a memorandum of understanding to drive the modernisation and growth of Tanzania’s agriculture sector through asset financing and access to agri-technology;

6 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Energy Minister January Makamba, meets with the leaders of the Tanzania Association of Oil Marketing Companies (Taomac) to discuss the hike in the price of fuel and future prospects;

5 Aug 2023 Kampala (Uganda) SwissInfo. Government begins to restore a branch of a century-old, United Kingdom-built railway line that is expected to cut the cost of shipping goods to the country’s North SudanSouth Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo;

5 Aug 2023 Nairobi (Kenya) The East African. Negotiators representing President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga meet to set a date for talks between Ruto and Odinga aimed at resolving Kenya’s political dispute that has triggered several protests;

4 Aug 2023 Kasese (Uganda) The East African. Residents near the Uganda-DRC border in the Kasese district report they are facing starvation due to insecurity caused by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels;

4 Aug 2023 Amhara (Ethiopia) Al Jazeera. Federal government declares a state of emergency in the Amhara region following days of fighting between the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and Fano militia;

3 Aug 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperite. Esther Misheng Mbidi, founder of the banking and insurance consulting firm CREDASSUR, organises an international economic forum on finance and sustainable development under the theme “Belgium and the Democratic Republic of Congo for lasting business relations”;

3 Aug 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The government shuts down internet services in most parts of the Amhara region with parts of GojjamGondarWolloSekota and Shoa without internet since the previous day;

3 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. World Bank reports that Tanzania’s largest trading partners in terms of import value are China, the United Arab EmiratesIndia and Saudi Arabia;

3 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. The Bank of Tanzania (central bank) says it will continue supplying United States dollars in the Inter-Bank Foreign Exchange Market (IFEM) to ensure oil marketing companies and other stakeholders have easy access to the foreign currency;

3 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation embarks on the process to improve gas-producing well MB-1 at Mnazi Bay development area in Mtwara Region to expand gas production and help meet demand;

2 Aug 2023 Gitega (Burundi) Russkiy Mir. Russia delivers a mobile laboratory to combat pathogens of dangerous infectious diseases to Burundi as Russian president Vladimir Putin promises that African countries will receive another ten mobile laboratories by 2026;

2 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) Daily News. Vice president Philip Mpango says the export of agricultural products has become a vital source of increased foreign currency, affirming that Tanzania has exported maize worth $71.5m this year, compared to $57.09m in 2022;

2 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) International Monetary Fund. International Monetary Fund (IMF) deputy managing director Bo Li completes a visit to Tanzania, thanking vice president Philip Mpango, finance minister Mwigulu Nchemba and Bank of Tanzania governor Emmanuel Tutuba for their hospitality and reiterating the IMF’s commitment to supporting the authorities’ effort to unlock Tanzania’s development potential;

2 Aug 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) All Africa. Minerals minister Doto Biteko tells attendees of the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit that Tanzania is looking for the latest technology to develop its uranium resources and to explore new nuclear technologies from other countries to contribute to economic growth, particularly uranium exploration;
