23 May 2023 Kinshasa (DRC) La Prosperité. Prime minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde addresses the 99th meeting of the Council Ministers and discusses the situation in Kalehe (South Kivu) where heavy rains on 4 May claimed the lives of more than 400 people;

23 May 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa officially reopens the Col. John C. Robinson American Corner on St. Mary’s University campus in Addis Ababa, which had been closed for in-person programmes and services since the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown;

22 May 2023 Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Borkena. The Ministry of Health announces that a cholera epidemic in Southern Region zones has more affected 919 people, with several fatalities;

22 May 2023 Victoria (Seychelles) Seychelles News Agency. Seychelles Fishing Authority aquaculture department head Aubrey Lesperance says aquaculture in Seychelles is becoming a strong sector in the “blue economy”, providing investors with necessary information based on their interest in the aquaculture sector;

22 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The World Bank’s latest rankings on the most efficient ports place Dar es Salaam, Djibouti and Berbera (Somalia) ports ahead of Mombasa (Kenya), highlighting Kenya’s fears that Tanzania has become a preferred route for shippers;

22 May 2023 Kampala (Uganda) Daily Monitor. A British university rejects a Ugandan graduate on grounds that the National Council for Higher Education had classified the course in which they qualified as “expired”, placing at risk the future of thousands of current students and recent graduates at Ugandan universities;

21 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. Natural resources and tourism minister Mohamed Mchengerwa urges Chinese travel agents visiting the country to bring in more Chinese tourists to Tanzania;

18 May 2023 Khartoum (Sudan) Africa News. The month-long fighting in Sudan has deepened the humanitarian crisis in the country, where one in three people already relied on humanitarian assistance before the war;

18 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. President Samia Suluhu Hassan reveals that Tanzania is planning to build its own satellite and that negotiations to reach the scientific milestone have already begun;

17 May 2023 Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) The Citizen. The Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit Agency (Dart) finalises feasibility studies in four cities in a process seeking to reserve project land to reduce the high cost of compensation in future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects;
